Some information about Cervia

Origin of the Name

The legend tells that the City of Cervia was entirely surrounded by woods, a regoular visitour of this territory  was the Lodi Bishop, one day while he was walkind in the pine forest , one deer, prostrated itself in front of the bishop as a sign of devotion. After this event the city was called Cervia , also considering  that in all the territory arround there were numerous groups of deer.

The history of Cervia

The pillar of Cervia was salt, in fact the city has always been linked to its production. The Cervia salt flat were already active in Roman times.
Salt was a very important resource in fact it was called “White Gold“, this being the only means for food preservation.
The salt warehouse in Cervia contained all the salt that was transported through the canal by the Burchielle, metal boats that were pushed by the salt workers from the banks.
Initially the name of the city of Cervia was Ficocle, erected adjacent to the salt pans, it was later transferred to a healthier position, because of presence of mosquitoes near the marshy areas.

Today Cervia is one of the most sought after seaside destinations, because it is characterized by tranquility and party, in fact you can see a large presence of hotels in Cervia. With a population of about 29 thousand inhabitants, during the summer season it is subject to host hundreds of thousands of guests.
